A meditation cabin designed to be located in the Vatnajökull national park in Iceland. A personal favorite.
/The live house is a place where an individual can shed human luxuries to become a part of nature once again
/The intention of this structure is to create a secluded area for self-reflection as well as serve as a vantage point for the observation of nature. Using the shape and organizational system of the Icelandic lupine plant and the traditions and proportional system in the art of meditative Ikebana a unique experience can be had on the path to enlightenment.
THE ICELANDIC LUPINE
lupinus nootkatensis
/The Icelandic lupine is a flowering plant that is locally invasive to the area. While the plant wasn't introduced into the area by foreign hands the plant does grow at a rapid pace. This plant has had a history of being used as a herbal tea base as well as a medical herb. The plants unique form has impacted all aspects of the design. From the angles of the building being oriented at the sun and nearest body to the location and shape of the interior furnishings in the meditation room.
/Another notable bio feature of Iceland significant in this design is the use of SOD. This material is used in the roofing and garden system on the second floor. Here the visitor can grow and experience nature at a more centralized location, only encouraged when raining, the system links traditional belief with the foreign meditation.
